Windows 11 Hits All-Time High!

Windows 11's market share has reached an all-time high. As Microsoft continues its efforts to transition users to Windows 11, the operating system's usage share has also hit record levels. Here are the details.

Windows 11 Surpasses 31% for the First Time in History

According to the latest figures from the analytics firm Statcounter, Windows 11 continues to steadily grow its desktop market share. As of August, the operating system saw a 0.8 percentage point increase from the previous month, reaching a record high of 31.63% worldwide. This represents an 8.46 percentage point increase compared to the previous year. Despite losing 0.85 percentage points last month, Windows 10 remains the market leader with a 64.14% share of the desktop segment.

It's worth noting that official support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025. Microsoft aims to transition Windows 10 systems to Windows 11 before this date. However, due to compatibility issues, many Windows 10 computers may not be able to upgrade. Additionally, there are still millions of systems running older Windows versions like Windows 7 and XP. According to Statcounter, Windows 7 currently holds 3.05% of the desktop market, while the nearly twenty-year-old Windows XP accounts for 0.4%.

Market Share Breakdown:

  1. Windows 10 – 64.14% (-0.85 percentage points)
  2. Windows 11 – 31.63% (+0.80 percentage points)
  3. Windows 7 – 3.05% (+0.10 percentage points)
  4. Windows 8.1 – 0.41% (-0.01 percentage points)
  5. Windows XP – 0.4% (+0.02 percentage points)

With less than a year remaining before the end of Windows 10's official support, it remains to be seen how long it will maintain its leadership position.
